Mountain Biking Lookout Mountain/ Wild Oak

***   Add a review
#128 of 290 mountain bike trails in Virginia
#4,683 in the world

Locally known as Lookout Mtn. Tr> it is part of the Wild Oak Trail. Can be done as an out and back or a couple of loop options. Trail has recently seen some TLC. Trail itself is generally moderately technical with some expert options. One of the more popular trails in the area. Only dir. needed are: once across the swinging bridge, right and then follow the trail up the mountain, not the one that f the river.

Rode up the fire road out of Stokesville campground. The first part of the climb isn't bad, but the last part is a real beast. Once you get to the top, the ride back down is epic. Tons of rocks and boulders everywhere, but trail flows. Take the short hike down to the scenic overlook, very worth it.

This trail is not for beginners. You're way out in the back country on some very technical trail with some exposure.

Decent trail overall. The loop contains eight miles of service road to the top. Nice workout trail for the locals. Incredible amount of boulder work done by the local club on the ridge pretty fun. Downhill contains a lot of fall line trail that could be turned into some nice switchbacks to the bottom.
