This is the best bike rack IMHO. This rack holds two bikes but I have four people and bikes, So we had to get the extension. Very well built. I like all the locking features. The rack came with a hitch lock and bike locks. I have used the locks a lot.
Pros Holds bikes with out damaging them. Very secure rack.
I have been a loyal Thule customer for year and have had most of their products for holding bikes and skis. The Kuat NV is definitely worth the extra money. It now comes in an all black version, which looks much better.
Pros The Kuat NV is a solid rack. It does a great job holding the bikes firmly in place and doesn't bounce around compared to other brands. Only rack that also includes a work stand, very nice to have. Included is a built in cable lock system for the bikes as well as a lock to keep the rack from being removed from the hitch.
Cons The cable for locking the bikes could be a bit longer. I have a hard time getting the two ends to meet sometimes.
I didn't need the extras of the NV, and I like the way the core has the up-curve of the hitch tongue. The other Kuat racks may all be like this now, but when looked it did not seem this way. I was torn between this and the Sherpa. I saved a few bucks, but put it back into the lock set... Was that dumb? I don't know. I liked the added actual support the Core provided with the longer platform.
I have a driveway that has a mean slope hear the curb, and other racks bottomed out ( this is on a 2011 Outback). The Kuat Core does not! Big plus for me. Bikes go on and off in seconds, the rack folds nicely, and the added lock kits will suffice for 'basic' security. I was hesitant to spend ~400 for this, but I am happy I did. I guess that says it all.
Pros Easy to load bikes
Ground clearance (see review)
Build quality
Best rack made period. Looks great. Will buy extension to add two more bikes
Pros
